What is a boneless bed?

It is shorthand for a sofa bed built without a wood frame. In place of a hardwood frame and a fold-out metal bar it uses compressible cushion tiers, which is why the whole piece can be vacuum-compressed into a box and shipped by a parcel carrier.

Does every boneless couch turn into a bed?

Is there a separate mattress?
